Creative Armada and Tiffany Travalent finally secured the rights to the songs needed to mass produce the DVD for her benefit concert "Free From Pain - A Magical Medical Mystery Show" which was shot at the much-missed 12 Galaxies in San Francisco. Over the course of the project we suffered a data loss and had to rescue the project clip by clip from the HD master tapes. With the project on hold for almost two whole years and several logistical and technical hangups... we have finally released this one-of-a-kind DVD. This show features an All*Star lineup of some of funk, early punk, and rock and roll greats and the night also sees the first time Jerry Harrison and Bernie Worrell since Talking Heads! The DVD is being featured by our friends at SFStation.com and you can read the Official Press Release below.
Just Released Benefit DVD
“Free From Pain”
Features a Unique Lineup of Musicians - A history-making lineup of talented musicians came together for the love of a friend, played their hearts out and now the event is being offered on DVD for everyone to enjoy. The “Free From Pain” benefit show raised money for a very special woman, Tiffany Travalent. Tiffany spent nine years as an artists’ liaison for Bill Graham Presents and a backstage manager at San Francisco’s Warfield Theater and Fillmore concert hall, where she made many lasting friends both inside and outside the music business. For six years Tiffany has battled severe chronic pain, stemming from an emergency surgery she suddenly had to undergo in 2003. Tiffany has tried every viable avenue since then to relieve that pain, seeking medical help from doctors all over the world. She has been unable to return to work and faces continuing insurmountable medical expenses.
On March 10, 2007, a world-renown group of musicians gathered at 12 Galaxies in San Francisco to support, honor and most importantly, to raise money for their friend Tiffany. Tiffany describes the evening as “a music lover’s dream.” And fortunately for music lovers, this outstanding night of performances by phenomenal artists was professionally captured on video, edited and is now available for purchase. The unique DVD, entitled, “Free from Pain,” is not only a one-of-a-kind musical masterpiece, but will tug at your heartstrings as you witness musicians performing at their peak for the love of Tiffany. This musical passion has been captured in a must-be-experienced DVD.
Artists who volunteered their talents to appear on the DVD include Bernie Worrell and Jerry Harrison -- reunited for the first time since Talking Heads; legendary New Orleans drummer Zigaboo Modeliste, who served up a spicy set with his signature backbeat, keeping it uniquely funky; Eric McFadden, the guitar virtuoso, played throughout the night, intricately weaving hot licks and multi-layered, vital guitar sounds. During one set, he was joined by Pete Sears and Seth Ford-Young, playing original music from Eric’s CD, “Alektraphobia.”
Timbuk 3’s pat mAcdonald brilliantly displayed his many talents, coming fully equipped with ingenious lyrics, bittersweet guitar tones, gritty harmonica and his trademark foot-stomp pedal. Loop!Station, featuring Robin Coomer’s powerful vocals and Sam Bass on his golden cello, looped and layered their majestic, unique sound. Ronkat Spearman, who along with Eric used to play with George Clinton’s P-Funk All Stars, gave an unforgettable performance with his original soulful funk, joined by Dawn Silva, Bernie Worrell and Shanna Hall from the P-Funk All-Stars family and Carlos Hernandez lending his guitar expertise from Anvil Chorus. With punk, funk, rock and soul, a sensational night of music and friendship swept over artists and audience alike. Eric McFadden who took charge of the benefit had this to say about the night, “The purpose of this event was to get together and help a loved one in dire need. As individuals, we often feel powerless in such cases as these, like we can't do enough to help. I knew I couldn't do much on my own, but with the help of a few of our friends, we could hope to make some kind of a difference in Tiffany's life. It turns out that Tiffany has no shortage of true friends. There was a lot of love going around that night. Everyone was glad to be there and all had a great time. I am grateful for the help and generosity of my fellow musicians and everyone else involved in helping put this concert and DVD together....and we are all grateful to Tiffany for being a part of our lives.” Creative Armada Productions recorded the show and created the hi-def, Dolby digital DVD. Extra features include three rare videos from Eric McFadden; “What Is They,” “Under Her Curse” and “Ghost.” The DVD can also be downloaded in a format for any portable CD or DVD player. Creative Armada hopes that proceeds from DVD sales will continue to help support Tiffany’s ongoing healthcare needs.
“I am truly blessed with amazing family and friends,” says Tiffany. “They came together to support me in my time of need with the “Free from Pain” benefit show and I am forever grateful.”

Buster Jones Post Production - WRAPPED

by j.nothing on 23-Nov-09 04:07

Starting in June we were invited to jump on board the joint with Smoothio and Rogue's Gallery films as Director of Photography, FX, and sound design. We had a lot of fun shooting and posting this project with the team. Creative Armada was in charge of key compositing shots, 3D modelling and motion tracking, rotoscoping, paintbox, color grading, and sound design. The final sound mix was done by 'The Invisible Studios' in Hollywood California. Buster had great reviews at it's first red-carpet screening in Sacramento California this past weekend and we are very pleased with the reactions we are getting so far. Thanks to all that made it happen. Stay tuned for the official launch. Coming Soon!

'Some Day' Video Journal

by j.nothing on 15-May-09 04:07
In May we took a trip from Carmel down to Pismo Beach and experimented with the new Canon Rebel T1i DSLR. The camera does a decent job of shooting 720p HD video at 30fps but we found there were some definite limitations. What canon calls a "rolling shutter" we found makes it hard to get decent pans and limited camera movement is the ideal. We also struggled slightly with the lack of an iris control but in some circumstances the stepping up and down of the iris could be used artistically. We were originally going to just use the footage to pepper our reels but were recently inspired by a friend and the song Bandit by Neil Young. This is the end result. All video and still shot with the Rebel T1i. © 2009 Creative Armada

2012: Preview Trailer

by j.nothing on 23-Mar-09 06:07
Creative Armada and Smoothio Films have just completed the teaser for '2012: A Stoner Comedy'. This was an opportunity to do a screen test for the Prather Bros., a local comedy team. The teaser depicts a 'day in the life' of two pothead brothers turned unlikely prophets, during their last afternoon on earth. The short was written by Flax Glor, and the Prather Bros (Matt and Sam). We shot in 1080/24p format and posted in Cinema 4D, After Effects, and Final Cut Pro to mimic a 1960's television look. Enjoy the clip.

MEDICAL MYSTERY - Tiffany Travalent Benefit DVD

by j.nothing on 18-Aug-08 12:26
Two years ago, world-renowned musicians and many local musicians came together to honor and raise money for Tiffany Travalent who has been suffering from severe chronic pain for the last six years and unable to work or live a normal life. This was a very special evening for all who attended, but mostly for Tiffany who was needless to say, very moved, by the evening's performances and events. The evening was hosted by local San Francisco musician, P-Funk All*Stars member, and long time friend of Tiffany's, Eric McFadden and Karin Conn. An auction to benefit Tiffany was emcee'd by comedian and eccentric SF personality, Chicken John, which included signed instruments, signed posters, tours, and gift certificates. The Teenage Harlets gave a special surprise mid-evening show that included a life-sized skankin' banana...!?. For $100 guests could opt to come early for a Meet & Greet with complimentary hors d'oeuvres and drinks, a signed commemorative poster and a copy of the night's show on CD.
Creative Armada was on site with 4 HD cameras and we shot over 17 hours of raw tape which we have boiled down to a 2 hour program. The DVD includes a bonus section featuring videos from Eric McFadden and friends. After toiling with publishing companies and intellectual property rights for nearly two years, we are very proud to finally be able to offer this wonderful evening, immortalized in all of it's glory on DVD. Here's a sample clip from the show of 'Loop Station!' and more info about the show below.

Ponotes.com video

by j.nothing on 01-Jun-08 12:26
Creative Armada has just completed short commercial pilot for ponotes.com, a company specializing in providing webspace for the deceased to leave media to their loved ones. The website will essentially function as a social network for the families of the deceased, and current members looking to get a 'head start' on leaving posthumous notes and video to their survivors. The client Las Vegas based Ponotes.com provided us with the script and treatment and it was shot between Big Sur and San Francisco California. We used the Panasonic HVX-200 because we wanted the small form factor and true 1080p recording.
