Back in April of 2010 we started working with Stan Ridgway (of Wall of Voodoo Fame) and his label, a440 records to do some promotional art for their albums. Stan’s latest album, Neon Mirage has received rave international reviews and some are calling it his ‘most reflective’ work. For the first of several projects we chose to use a 3D camera mapping technique and apply it to a still image of the desert in the South West along Route 66. We mapped the static shot in 3D after carefully slicing up the background and foreground elements, added some 3D elements (car, buildings, trees, neon sign) and then dropped in a 3D camera and keyframed a crane shot. Finally, we added a 3D sun flare over the existing sun in the 2D shot to seamlessly tie all the elements to the background. Stan provided the audio track which features one of his songs which he incorporated with some of his own sound design mayhem in the studio.

This is a quick demo reel to represent what our 3D department can do for your company image. Chief animator Geoff Hecht uses Maya for his designs and Director Jeff Cavanaugh prefers the ease of use and intuitiveness of Maxon’s Cinema 4D. The use of both packages enables us to create with endless possibility and deliver on a wide range of timelines, budgets, and formats from Broadcast to HD and 3D cinema output.

HELM – ‘Jigga’ music video
We snuck into a rehearsal and grabbed some live audio and video of Santa Cruz post-metal band HELM. This elusive band has yet to mix, master, and release their debut album mainly due to each member being a devout perfectionist in his own right. We produced this with co producer/bassist Matt Olsen as a promotional video. Shooting this in their rehearsal room (a former equine operating room) meant our mics were subject to super high sound pressure levels that can only be described as a feeling rather than a sound. Stay tuned for more from Creative Armada and HELM in 2012.

FREE FROM PAIN – Benefit DVD NOW AVAILABLE!
For info and to purchase the DVD go to The FREE FROM PAIN website. Creative Armada and Tiffany Travalent finally secured the rights to the songs needed to produce and distribute the DVD for her benefit concert “Free From Pain – A Magical Medical Mystery Show” which was shot at the much-missed 12 Galaxies in San Francisco.
Over the course of the project we suffered a data loss and had to rescue the project clip by clip from the HD master tapes. With the project on hold for almost two whole years and several logistical and technical hangups… we have finally released this one-of-a-kind DVD. This show features an All*Star lineup of some of funk, early punk, and rock and roll greats and the night also sees the first time Jerry Harrison and Bernie Worrell play together since making music history with Talking Heads! The DVD is being featured by our friends at SFStation.com and you can read the Official Press Release below.
